FAQs
How often should I change the 2nd Skin Squares for optimal healing?
Spenco 2nd Skin Squares should be used as a prevention, not a blister treatment. That’s because they are not sterile, and the hydrogel isn’t designed to deal with blister fluids or wound fluids. 2nd Skin Squares are best used on hotspots or blister-prone areas to prevent blisters developing.
Can I cut the 2nd Skin Squares into smaller pieces to fit different wound sizes?
2nd Skin Squares can easily be cut down to your desired size. They are also helpful to use doubled up to enjoy twice the cushioning relief.
Are 2nd Skin Squares safe to use on children or elderly individuals with fragile skin?
Absolutely. Each square is at least 80% water, so it’s very gentle on the skin.
Can I use 2nd Skin Squares under adhesive dressings?
Yes, in fact you need to apply tape over the 2nd Skin Squares to hold them in place. A dressing will work just as well as tape for this.
Are 2nd Skin Squares suitable for use on infected wounds?
Absolutely not. Do not place these on infected wounds, or open weepy sores or even torn blisters. Because the 2nd Skin Squares are occlusive, they could make infection worse. Instead, apply an antiseptic to fight the infection, then an island dressing (like Primapore or Livingstone dressings) and change them frequently. If infection worsens, consult your doctor.
